Having closed the season for knee surgery after the Australian Open last year, Federer plans to return to the courts with the Doha tournament in March. Federer first stated that his post-surgery goal was to take part in the 2021 Australian Open, but he announced that he withdrew from the tournament last month because he could not regain his full form after the surgery. This is the first time that 20 grand slam champion tennis player have not participated in the Australian Open draw since 2000. Stating that he did not want to return to tennis before he fully recovered, the Swiss tennis player stated that his main goal was to get ready for Wimbledon. He said feeling good right now and said that he wanted to start with a small tournament first. Stating that he will be assertive for the remainder of the season after opening the season with Doha, which started on March 8, Federer said that he especially gives importance to Wimbledon, Olympic and American Open tournaments.
